All field trips take place the morning of May 17th. Space is limited.

  • Tour the Cook County Urban Coyote Research Project field sites: Tour led by Dr. Stan Gehrt (Ohio State University) and Chris Anchor (Cook County Forest Preserve District) of some Cook County Urban Coyote Research Project field sites, including sites in the city and suburbs. Leave from the zoo; approximately 8AM-3PM; lunch will be provided.
  • Kayak the Chicago River: Once a highly polluted waterway, the Chicago River has gone through a tremendous revival and is now teeming with wildlife and recreation. Head down the river toward downtown while guides point out hidden natural features and explain the surprising, paradoxical ecology of this heavily engineered natural area. Leave from the zoo; approximately 9AM-1PM.
  • Bird Chicago: Did you know that the Chicago area one of the premier birding areas in the country? Located along a migratory flyway and adjacent to Lake Michigan, Chicago sees hundreds of species each spring and fall. Join local experts on a tour of a few of Chicago’s urban birding hotspots. Leave from the zoo; approximately 7AM-11AM.
  • Chicago Cubs Game: Although their record might not show it, there is something special about the Chicago Cubs! Come see the Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in an afternoon game in one of the country’s most iconic stadiums, Wrigley Field. Transportation is on your own and is easy by taking the CTA Red Line to Addison; game starts at 1:20PM.
